  23. WINstall is distributed as shareware. Shareware is not a type of
  24. software, rather it is a method of marketing. Shareware allows you to
  25. evaluate a software package BEFORE you decide whether or not you want to
  26. spend your hard-earned dollars on it. In the case of WINstall you are
  27. entitled to a 30-day evaluation period. During this time you may use
  28. WINstall, unrestricted, to determine whether it suits your needs. If you
  29. are satisfied with the software and wish to continue using it beyond
  30. this 30-day period, you must register. After you have registered you
  31. will be provided with the current registered version of WINstall. This
  32. version is essentially the same as the evaluation version, with the
  33. registration "reminder" removed. It is illegal (and not very nice) to
  34. continue using the software without registering it. Registration
  35. provides you with other benefits such as a quick-reference card and
  36. discounts on upgrades. It also facilitates the future development of
  37. WINstall. Registration information, as well as an order form, follow on
  38. the next couple pages.

  64. either party against the other arising out of or related to this
  65. agreement shall be brought only in a STATE or FEDERAL COURT of competent
  66. jurisdiction located in Utah County, Utah. The parties hereby consent to

  71.                    COPYRIGHT NOTICE & LICENSE AGREEMENT

  73.      The registered version of WINstall and the disk on which it is
  74. contained is licensed for one user. This is copyrighted software. You
  75. are not obtaining title to the software or any copyright rights through
  76. its purchase. You may not sublicense, rent, lease, convey, modify,
  77. translate, convert to another programming language, decompile, or
  78. disassemble the software for any purpose. You may distribute the
  79. SETUP.EXE and your version of SETUP.INI with any application that you
  80. wish regardless of quantity. You may not include WINstall documentation
  81. or other support files with your application.

  83.      You are granted a limited license to use the unregistered version
  84. for a limited evaluation period of up to 30 days, in order to determine
  85. if it suits your needs. If you desire to use the program past this date,
  86. you must register.

  88.      You are granted a limited license to copy the unregistered version
  89. of WINstall for the purpose of allowing other to try it under the
  90. conditions outlined in VENDOR.DOC.

  170.                             SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  171.  
  172.      WINSTALL should be able to run on any system capable of operating
  173. Windows 3.1. Unless something is very amiss, if you can start Windows,
  174. you can start WINstall.

  178.                            SETUP.INI File Format
  179.  
  180.      It is broken down by each group, then the individual items within
  181. the groups. For a practical example, you may want to take a look at the
  182. SETUP.INI that comes with WINstall and is used by WINstall for its own
  183. installation.

  185. [Application]
  186.      This group contains general installation information related to
  187.      your application.
  188. Name=
  189.      This is the name of your application. It will be displayed at the
  190.      top of the screen during installation and is used in several of the
  191.      dialog boxes and prompts within WINstall.
  192. SpaceRequired=
  193.      This is the total disk space, in bytes, that your application will
  194.      take when installation is complete. It is used for determining what
  195.      percentage of the installation has completed so the user is given
  196.      an accurate indication of the progress.
  197. Directory=
  198.      This is the default directory into which your application will be
  199.      installed. The user will be given an opportunity to change this
  200.      setting during the installation.
  201. Group Description=
  202.      This is text that will display under the group icon in the Windows
  203.      Program Manager.
  204. Readme=
  205.      This specifies a text file that WINstall will display when
  206.      installation has completed. If you leave this blank, or enter
  207.      "NOREADME" as the filename then there will be no readme display at
  208.      the end of installation.

  210. [Files]
  211.      This group lists each of the files that you wish to install to your
  212.      application directory in the following format:
  213.                       File=Description,Disk,Overwrite
  214.  
  215.      "File" is simply the full name of the file being installed as it
  216.           appears in a directory listing of your shipping ZIP/disk. If
  217.           you have compressed the file using the COMPRESS.EXE utility,
  218.           please type the COMPRESSED filename as it appears on your
  219.           distribution disk, not the original name.
  220.      "Description" is a description of the function of that individual
  221.           file that will be displayed in installation progress box
  222.           during the install process.
  223.      "Disk" will just be the disk number that this file is installing
  224.           from. (i.e. The first disk would be 1, the second 2, and so
  225.           on)
  226.      "Overwrite" is a single letter specifying which overwrite option
  227.           you wish to use if WINstall detects that there is already a
  228.           file in the destination director with the same name as the one
  229.           your attempting to install:
  230.  
  231.      'N'ever overwrite if another file with same name already exists in
  232.           destination directory.
  233.      'Y'es always overwrite another file with the same name in
  234.           destination directory.
  235.      'P'rompt user to decide whether to overwrite file with same name.
  236.      'D'ate - Only overwrite file if the version being installed is
  237.           newer.

  239. [System]
  240.      This section specifies files that you want installed to the
  241.      WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Some common files to here are BWCC.DLL,
  242.      CTL3D.DLL and Visual Basic runtime and .VBX files. The syntax is
  243.      the same as the [Files] section.

  245. [Icons]
  246.      This section tells install which files to create icons for and what
  247.      description to place below the icons in the Program Manager. The
  248.      syntax is simply: File=Description
  249.

  252.                                COMPRESS.EXE
  253.  
  254.      Microsoft as released COMPRESS.EXE as a public redistributable to
  255. provide easy data compression on single files. WINstall has the ability
  256. to install file that have been compacted with this utility enabling the
  257. software distributer to fit more data onto a single floppy or CD-ROM. A
  258. copy of COMPRESS.EXE should have been included with SETUP.EXE.

  260.      To use COMPRESS simply type "COMPRESS -R Filename". This will create
  261. a new filename in which the last character of the extension will be an
  262. underscore. This file can then be copied directly to your distribution
  263. disk or ZIP file to be decompressed by WINstall. Make sure that you do
  264. use that -R option on the command line or WINstall will not be able to
  265. properly determine the destination filename during installation.
